Role Summary:
The Sr. Public Cloud Engineer will be primarily focused on designing and building tools and services to support and manage the vast and diverse environments which are the landing points for GE’s applications. The ideal candidate has a passion for solving big challenges, is passionate about the cloud and is strong proponent that nearly everything in the cloud should be expressed as code in the cloud.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and development of GE Public Cloud services and tools focusing on environment and management automation.
  • Lead Cloud Engineering teams to evolve internally developed management tools for managing enterprise Identity at cloud scale.
  • Develop and implement solid, scalable and flexible solutions to support GE teams and their customers migrating, transforming, and/or developing applications in the public cloud.
  • Share, evangelize, and practice cloud development best practices and culture with business application and development teams.
  • Document, partner, and share templates, techniques, and artifacts with other development teams around GE.
  • Be a leader helping to drive the GE IT vision and a key contributor toward delivering upon the GE IT Strategic Imperatives (Process Excellence, Simplification, Collaboration, Security & Compliance

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management or 4+ years experience in developing, implementing and maintaining large scale Cloud Service technologies and processes
  • Four or more years of hands-on experience developing solutions and/or implementing applications, services, or environments on one or more public cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure preferred).

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience engineering and supporting cloud scale IaaS and PaaS environments.

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Amazon Web Services – Certified Developer or DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure – Developing and Designing Azure Applications, or similar cloud certification
  • Active contributor to the open source community
  • Hands on experience designing and implementing solutions leveraging multiple services within public cloud providers via provider and/or cross platform APIs.
  • Demonstrated Hands On Experience Developing Solutions with Cloud Orchestration Tools (Chef, Puppet, CFEngine, etc.) –Certification a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise developing software, scripts, and or services for the cloud in at least one of the following: Ruby, Python, PHP, Go, Perl, Scala or similar language.
  • Strong Knowledge of IP Networking including VPC’s, VPN’s, VRF, DNS, Load-balancing, and Firewalls.
  • Thought leader, and/or certification in modern IT/developer operations.
  • Demonstrated Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle and Associated Tools
  • Demonstrated customer focus – evaluates decisions through the eyes of the customer; builds strong customer relationships; creates processes with customer viewpoint; partners with customers to help shape their future initiatives
  • Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans
  • Change oriented – actively generates process improvements ; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly
