Essential Responsibilities:


    Organization
    The Global Ops VAT Team is responsible for preparing, reviewing & submitting VAT, EC Sales and Purchase listing & associated statistical filings for all GE businesses across Europe. This covers VAT services for 800+ legal entities operated by GE affiliates across 31 countries in Europe in close cooperation with GE Business VAT Managers, Corporate VAT Managers (Country/Regional & Technical/Policy), local & regional business controllership & finance teams. Services are governed by the GE S&T Enterprise Standards and GE MAP 020.30. Service scope includes support on VAT advisory activities and external & internal audit support/management.

    Responsibilities, Skills & Experience
  • Own the W2W VAT process for the country or region. This includes preparation (including VAT account reconciliation), review/approval, submission and payment process for VAT and associated filings (e.g. EC Sales & Purchase listing, Intrastat) for the country or region.
  • Allocate returns and all filings for preparation, review, submission and payment across the country or regional team; provide support on more complex areas of VAT compliance & manage VAT risk for the country or region.
  • Allocate VAT accounts to be reconciled across the team; provide support on the monthly/quarterly/annual review. Ensure that the VAT accounts are reconciled in accordance with the relevant GE policies for the country or region.
  • Proactively address gaps in process standards, training and documentation, identify and recommend improvement ideas for productivity & simplification of processes.
  • Ensure all VAT and associated returns are correct, submitted and paid on time for the country or region.
  • Support on VAT advisory activities for the country or region in close cooperation with Business and Corporate VAT Managers (Country/Regional & Technical/Policy) to Business Finance, Global Operations or any other functions which require help.
  • Review & support any VAT Reporting & Controllership Tools, i.e. VRT/GVT and ensure that the DTPs (Desk Top Procedures) and the TKB (The Tax Knowledge Base) are kept up-to-date for VAT in cooperation with Business and Corporate VAT Managers (Country/Regional & Technical/Policy).
  • Support the Tax & VAT SME colleagues in any system (including ERPs and Tax Engines) or Tool related developments (e.g. implementations, upgrades) and queries.
  • Lead the GO country or regional team members. Manage people, drive employee engagement, recruit and develop talents. Establish team priorities, behaviors and deliverables. Monitor operational performance.
  • Support the Tax & VAT Migration & Audit Team in migrations & integrations.
  • Support the Tax & VAT Migration & Audit Team and/or Business VAT and Corporate VAT Managers (Country/Regional & Technical/Policy) in any external & internal audits. Ensure that the audit ready documents are prepared and reviewed prior to being provided to the external auditors.
  • Work with other functions within Global Ops and Business and Corporate VAT teams to ensure that the documents required for audits are properly stored and archived.
  • Initiate, coordinate/lead and/or support - in close cooperation with Business VAT and Corporate VAT Managers (Country/Regional & Technical/Policy) - critical pan-European VAT projects related to service quality, productivity, process simplification, digitization and harmonization as required.
  • Establish close linkage and alignment with Corporate, Businesses and other Global Operations Functions. Act as a GO Business Relationship Manager for businesses as needed.
  • Support GO VAT Leader for Europe in any additional VAT related initiatives, projects as needed.


Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience in managing W2W VAT compliance (preparation, review, submission & payment).
  • Experience in VAT advisory work and audit management.
  • Excellent influencing and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication & presentation skills, including fluency in English.
  • Finance shared services experience, or as a minimum a solid understanding of shared services dynamics
  • Strong ownership & accountability, with a proven track record of execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve, creates actionable operational plans.
  • Proven ability to anticipate, and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to drive process excellence and standardization.
  • Ability to build regulatory & compliance requirements into project requirements.
  • Resource management skills.
  • Cultural awareness & sensitivity: ability to flex style to suit differing cultural norms and experience of leading a culturally diverse team.
  • Good understanding of core Finance operational processes.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Good understanding of GE’s organization, and processes desired
  • GE VAT Reporting Tool or similar Tool experience.
