About Us: GE is the world’s Digital Industrial Company, transforming industry with software-defined machines and solutions that are connected, responsive and predictive. Through our people, leadership development, services, technology and scale, GE delivers better outcomes for global customers by speaking the language of industry.
Role Summary: To carry out engineering designs in the secondary discipline for transmission and distribution projects and tenders in accordance with the project specifications, agreed timeframes. To validate the correct implementation of these designs by participation to factory and site installation / testing.
Portfolio: “Medium-Set” complexity level projects with major portion on secondary engineering (e.g. GIS/MV substations); 1 new project + 1 existing project of which engineering ¾ completed.
Essential Responsibilities: Secondary and Auxiliary System Design • Master project technical specifications and company standards and rules of secondary design aspect. • Protection & Control scheme design: Produce high-level scheme designs which are appropriate for the application. Including tripping, inter-tripping, breaker failure, control and interlocking logics; protection communications; SCS/SCADA interfaces and signal list. • P&C equipment: select / specify appropriate protection relays, controllers and meters according to project requirements. Perform sizing calculations to specify appropriate CT and VT requirements. • Panel Schematic Design: design, specify and produce drawings and documentation detailing protection and associated control circuitry, cubicle layouts/general arrangements, field cabling and HV equipment interfaces. • Relay Settings and Configuration: Carry out system analysis as required for protection coordination. Determine configuration/logic settings for relays in accordance with scheme and circuitry designs. Produce reports detailing these settings and configuration. • Auxiliary System Design: design auxiliary AC/DC systems including load/sizing calculations, protection, grading etc. Specify AC/DC distribution principles. • Cabling Systems: produce cable schedules and termination charts for control and small power cables fed to panels; specify appropriate wiring systems.
Interface with Project Engineering Manager • Support the project engineering manager on technical aspect of secondary and auxiliary systems. • Establish, negotiate and agree, with project engineering manager, on secondary and auxiliary systems engineering schedule. • Ensure engineering design activities of secondary and auxiliary systems are within agreed budget. • Issue technical clearance and/or bill of quantities on schedule for secondary and auxiliary systems equipment and/or accessories. • Inform promptly technical issues of secondary and auxiliary systems that may affect project cost, time and quality. And request for resolution. • Inform promptly potential opportunities related to technical scope of secondary and auxiliary systems. • Inform changes on secondary and auxiliary systems that may impact other work packages.
Interface With Customer’s Technical Team • Establish good communication and working relationship with customer technical team in the secondary and auxiliary system domain. • Attend technical meetings to resolve design issues in a constructive manner. • Check customer comments are applicable according to project technical specifications and/or relevant international standards. • Timely address customer’s comments.
Interface With Suppliers’ Technical Team • Review and liaise with secondary and auxiliary systems equipment suppliers to ensure documents and drawings comply with project requirements and/or international standards. • Monitor suppliers’ documents quality. Populate supplier document quality records. • Attend technical meetings to resolve design issues, with project engineering manager and/or project manager when required.
Interface with Design Engineers / Managers • Timely update design manager on design progress and forecasted resource requirement. • Prepare return of experiences (ROE) on project/ customer for cross-fertilising the design team of secondary and auxiliary systems.
Qualifications/Requirements: Education / Experience • Degree in Electrical Engineering preferably power engineering. • At least 6 years experiences on substation integration design, with minimum 4 years experiences in substation protection, control and auxiliary system design.
Specific knowledge (refer to Annex-1 for details) • Power system behaviours and application of protection to power systems. • Protection, Control and interlocking schematic, cubicle layout design, manufacturing and testing. • Relevant IEC/IEEE standards for substation design. • Sound knowledge of Transmission and Distribution protection, control, and auxiliary products. • Familiar with substation automation system interfaces. • Good command of secondary engineering tools (Engineering Base, Ruplan).
