Gas Power Systems (GPS) is an $8B business within GE Power that sells and constructs power plants around the world. With key locations in Schenectady NY, Baden Switzerland, Belfort France and Greenville SC, our IT team tightly partners with our functional business counterparts representing sourcing, project management, finance, logistics, engineering and site commissioning and construction.

Role Summary:
As a UX Design Technologist you will bridge the gap between Design and Technology. You understand the importance of human-centered design and the implication of technology on experiences. As a UX Design Technologist you will contribute to multiple small to medium sized projects as an individual contributor with a focus on at least one specialized technology domain.

Essential Responsibilities:
    In this role, you will:

  • Participate as a team member in design validation sessions; execute design technology tasks as
    assigned in detail
  • Contribute across multiple small or medium sized projects as assigned in a cross-functional
  • Understand the key approaches/methods to prototypes and when each is appropriate/necessary
  • Clearly articulate your own point of view and understands the points of view of others in a larger


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math); or
    equivalent experience
  • Some prior experience
  • Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and principles of responsive design
  • Basic understanding of one server-side language (e.g. Python, Java, PHP, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of version control for software (e.g. Git, SVN)
  • Basic understanding of APIs, Databases, and an awareness of Front-End Frameworks (e.g. Angular,Ember, React, etc.)

Desired Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:

Able to assist with the translation of designs (e.g. wireframes, mockups, and requirements documents)
to engineering teams
Familiar with Agile development practices
Understands the concept of rapid / proof of concept prototyping and when appropriate to use
Advanced knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and principals of responsive design
Strong understanding of one server-side language - (e.g. Python, Java, PHP, etc.)

Business Acumen:

Understands key cross-functional concepts that impact the organization.
Understands industry knowledge at a high level.
Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important, and how technology can be used in the process to explore possibilities. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
Understands that designing, developing and deploying products and services for infrastructure-level domains requires attention to the complex behavior and relationship within and between systems.


Assists with the translation of user-centered design requirements into technical implementations for Projects
Communicates clearly the purpose and desired outcomes of meetings.
Understands the purpose and role of user experience within a larger collaborative work ecosystem and actively considers the needs and constraints of projects when making technical recommendations
Listens attentively, uses body language to signal undivided attention in research and collaboration
