Role Summary:

The Cloud Developer will develop & deliver flexible, reusable solutions to assist & accelerate application development, migration & transformation to the public cloud. These solutions can include: reusable components, application programming interfaces, platform scaffolding, data structures, and/or orchestration recipes developed to leverage services & platforms in the public cloud. The ideal candidate will share cloud development best practices with GE application & development team

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement solid, scalable and flexible software solutions for business and application teams migrating, transforming, and/or developing applications in the public cloud.
  • Evaluate detailed technical application designs and serves as a subject matter expert for GE development teams in optimizing applications to take advantage of public cloud services.
  • Develop reusable solutions, to assist and accelerate business teams migrating, transforming, or creating applications for the public cloud.
  • Share, evangelize, and practice cloud development best practices and culture with business application and development teams.
  • Document, partner, and share templates, techniques, and artifacts with other development teams around GE.
  • Be a leader helping to drive the GE IT vision and a key contributor toward delivering upon the GE IT Strategic Imperatives (Process Excellence, Simplification, Collaboration, Security & Compliance)
  • Hands on contributor in cloud automation and application development
  • Improve team communication and collaboration by serving as a liaison between teams
  • Drive improvements in quality, stability and scalability through automation and application of DevOps best practices
  • Push organization forward through research and application of new technologies
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend improvement to team processes
  • Increase GE Digital visibility through open source contributions (up to 25% of time)
  • Builds expertise in GE Digital cloud platforms through training and certification

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Basic Qualifications


    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

      • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job.


      Desired Characteristics:
    • 1-2+ years experience in Cloud Service development, compute engineering, architecture and implementation
    • Demonstrated experience and expertise developing software and services for the cloud in at least one of the following: Ruby (core or on Rails), Python, Java, PHP, and/or .NET.
    • Hands on experience designing and implementing solutions leveraging multiple services within public cloud providers via provider and/or cross platform APIs.
    • Demonstrated scripting experience (Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Powershell, etc.)
    • Demonstrated experience in Angular, Ember, Express, Node, or other Javascript frameworks.
    • Expertise in of Service-Oriented Architecture SOA (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, etc.)
    • Firm knowledge of web technologies such as HTTP, JavaScript, AJAX, HTML, DHTML, CSS, etc.). .
    • Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration
    • Experience with pair programming
    • Demonstrated Experience with the Software Development Lifecycle and Associated Tools
    • Comfortable with Agile development practices
    • Strong analytical and strong problem solving skills - communicates in a clear and succinct manner and effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve; creates actionable strategies and operational plans
    • Change oriented – actively generates process improvements; champions and drives change initiatives; confronts difficult circumstances in creative ways, balances multiple and competing priorities and executes accordingly
