Role Summary: In this role, you will support the data requirements of GE Power including functional and regional business users as well as Data Scientists who are using analytics to achieve business outcomes including building new customer analytics products to increase revenue, driving internal productivity to reduce cost and managing risk of our contractual services portfolio.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing the data support for the reporting and business intelligence requirements of the Commercial function in the GE Power business. You will provide data management for a specific function like Commercial, Operations, Risk or Finance and / or specific data category like Asset, Sensor, Services or Supply Chain data. In addition, you will:
Drive the Data Strategy and align it with continuously changing business landscape
Work on all the data types across the enterprise including Asset, Sensor, Services and Environmental Data
Continuously increase Data Coverage by working closely with the Data Scientists, understanding and evaluating their data requirements and delivering the data they need
Support the data requirements of the different functional teams like Finance, Risk, Engineering, Commercial & Fulfillment and all the regional KPI / Metrics initiatives
Evaluate, explore and select the right data platform technologies including Big Data, RDBMS & NoSQL to meet the analytics requirements
Provide visibility to Data Quality issues and work with the business owners to fix the issues
Implement an Enterprise Data Governance model and actively promote the concept of data sharing, data reuse, data quality and data standards
Perform any necessary data mapping, data lineage activities and document information flows
Build the Metadata model & Business Glossary by gathering information from multiple sources: business users, existing data sources, databases and other relevant documents and systems
Serve as data subject matter expert and demonstrate an understanding of key data management principles and data use
Drive Master Data Management(MDM) strategy including implementing the governance model for Master Data
Drive Data profiling and data exploration for basic understanding and profiling of the data
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent (STEM) with minimum 5 years of experience as data engineer.
A minimum of 2 years of experience using Hadoop ecosystem, Map-Reduce, Spark, NoSQL (HBase, MongoDB etc.), Cassandra is required
A minimum of 2 years of experience using Scripting (Pig, Python, Perl, etc) is required
A minimum of 2 years of experience with Core Java, Java WebServices development SOAP, REST APIs
A minimum of 1 year of experience working on Database(s), SQL is required

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%, as required
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Atlanta, GA
Primary role in recent positions must be as a Lead Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer
Ability to leverage data assets to respond to complex questions that require timely answers
Basic level knowledge in area of modeling expertise (e.g., data, physics, or domain driven). Aware of basic forms of modeling and how they apply to different types of data (e.g., text, voice, image, survival, time dependent, etc.)
Conducts exploratory data analysis and generates visual summaries of data. Identifies data quality issues
Actively identifies needs for novel methods/tools and works with team to invent as necessary. Validates new tools and methodologies
Good knowledge of Predix Platform
Working knowledge and hand on Experience with Restful Webservices, Angular JS and Polymer and other web components like HTML5 and CSS
Hand on experience with one of the major RDBMS and contemporary database technologies including Big Data / Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Shark, Spark, etc.), RDBMS and NoSQL
Knowledge of data transfer and ingestion technologies including Talend and HVR
Implements Tableau visualizations to visually show insights
Write complex SQL queries needed to query & analyze data
Demonstrates knowledge of business' structure (P&Ls) & the levers that support the business goals
Offers data solutions as a method to achieve bus objectives. Knowledgeable about pricing and cost drivers for Services model(s) of their business; aware of services models of other GE businesses
Understands basic functionality and interoperability of product modules / components
Does a comparison analysis of trends, implements action towards new direction/trend
Articulates the value proposition of existing technology capabilities and maps them to customer requirements to minimize incremental cost of development
Knowledge of data management standards, data governance practices and data quality
Works effectively with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., UX, GE Business teams) and understands the interconnections between them
Uses teamwork skills to achieve goals, solve problems, and manage conflict
Understands strengths and weaknesses of team members, and consistently leverage these to achieve goals.
