Role Summary: Legal Counsel for Korea Global Growth Organization (GGO) will provide corporate and commercial legal, and regulatorycommercial advice and guidance regarding, including (i) researching Korean laws and regulations in relation to GE’s enterprise in Korea, (ii) drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and corporate transactions, (iii) supporting all GE Corporate, GGO and component businesses, and (iv) complying with legal and regulatory requirements for GE’s enterprise in Korea.
Essential Responsibilities: • Providing assistance in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and corporate transactions. • Providing advice and counsel on company law, controllership and regulatory issues. • Providing legal support to all GE businesses regarding contract drafting, reviewing negotiating, interpretation and guidance. • Keeping abreast of all legal and regulatory developments as they relate to GE businesses in Korea. • Other matters as instructed by the General Counsel.
The Legal Counsel will have the following responsibilities: • Negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts, terms & conditions of all types of contracts, including, international and domestic sales agreements with customers for the supply of services and parts, and other services activities, including all of the appropriate contract documentation, ancillary agreements and guarantees. • Providing assistance in relation to enhancing legal productivity, simplification and standardization projects for the Korean Legal Team. • Training of the business and sales teams on legal, compliance, risk issues and contracting skills. • Providing advice and counsel on controllership and regulatory issues with regard to daily operation of all GE businesses. • Providing legal support to the contract execution team regarding contract interpretation and guidance, particularly regarding disputes or other issues that develop during contract execution. • Keeping abreast of legal developments in all GE businesses in Korea and other relevant sectors. • Providing assistance on a wide range of regional and HQ legal and compliance issues to other members of the legal and compliance team and the business. • Providing legal support to local sourcing team.
Qualifications/Requirements: • Legal degree from accredited law school in Korea with a demonstrable superior academic record and training. • Admission to Korean bar. • Approximately 6-9 years of legal post-qualification experience, preferably in a law firm, that includes, inter alia: o Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various contracts, including international sales agreements; o Experience in working and negotiating with international customers; o Experience in foreign exchange, international trade, foreign direct investment and corporate governance. o Experience in international dispute resolution preferable, but not required. o Experience in Korean regulatory compliance. • Superior advocacy skills, including the ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in writing and orally, and aptitude for practical negotiation. The capability to think clearly and quickly under pressure and the composure to satisfy multiple and often competing interests. • A strong commitment to integrity and professionalism. • Extensive knowledge of law and commercial legal practice in Korea. • A work history that affirmatively demonstrates leadership and ability to influence others to deliver on commitments,. • Demonstrable fluency in English and Korean, including ability to draft and negotiate legal and commercial documents in such languages. • Superior negotiating skills and ability to work in complex international environment, substantial experience working in different cultures and open and tolerant mind with respect to diversity. • Demonstrable computer literacy with specific ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other software such as redlining tools. • Record of dedicated and successful teamwork, excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and a well-developed sense of humor.
