Role Summary: This position shall support the Plant Manager in Markham to achieve and maintain EHS excellence. Primary responsibility will be for the management of all key programs/initiatives in terms of EHS and Security.
Essential Responsibilities: • Responsible for developing and promoting a healthy and safe work environment for all employees • Maintain 100% compliance with federal, provincial and local EHS in the Markham facility • Develop plans to ensure compliance of plant operations with government regulatory agency requirements relating to air, water, waste and associated health and safety • Integration with all functions and associates to aggressively reduce EHS incidents and accidents • Lead EHS programs and involvement across all functions in both locations • Lead implementation of all GE EHS & Security programs including all Gensuite web tools • Drive operationalization of EHS and Security across all functions • Establish, lead, guide and coach key EHS teams:, Ergo team, Accident Investigation Team, Joint Health and Safety Committee etc. • Participate and incorporate EHS into NPIs and process/production changes • Liaise, cultivate and develop solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulators • Execute on plans to drive world-class EHS performance
Qualifications/Requirements: • BS or BA in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline • Minimum of 7 years’ experience operationalizing safety, compliance, and environmental programs in a manufacturing facility • Minimum of 7 years’ experience dealing with provincial and local regulatory agencies
Desired Characteristics: • Six Sigma Greenbelt certified (GE employees only) • Knowledge of GE Energy Programs and Systems • Working knowledge of Gensuite • Related professional designation (e.g. CSP, CIH etc.) • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks • Strong written and verbal communication skills spanning all layers in the organization • Computer proficiency • Ability to develop and drive to an EHS excellence vision • Ability to integrate business and financial objectives into EHS decision-making • Mastery of influencing skills - proven ability to work within & lead cross-functional teams • Results-oriented: drive effective short-term actions within the context of a longer term system improvement vision
