Role Summary:
Coordinate and expedite the flow of materials (from suppliers and also within departments) according to production schedules. Plan and schedule material/production needs. Department shares knowledge acquired in concrete projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
In the role of Materials Manager you will:

  • Drive a zero tolerance environment for safety infractions. Promote safety, proactive behavior
  • Exhibit outstanding leadership skills, and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization including senior leadership
  • Ensure that the materials and production planning, buying and inventory control functions are supporting the needs of sales, product development, customer service and production in a cost effective and efficient manner
  • Plan, organize, direct and support, monitor and control the staff and functions related to materials planning, buying and inventory control.
  • Continuously review and monitor departmental performance to ensure corporate objectives are being met
  • Manage the supply chain, including materials and consumables suppliers and the logistics service providers to ensure supplier performance
  • Identify any performance deficiencies and problems or opportunities for improvement in these areas of responsibility, and take initiative to solve the problems and realize the opportunities
  • Identify specific cost reduction opportunities and take action to achieve cost reductions, or improve cost effectiveness, including introducing alternative sources where appropriate
  • Work effectively in co-operation with the Production Manager to develop and maintain efficient planning and operations in production, warehousing and materials handling
  • Drive for continuous inventory turn improvement and implement best practice models to assure targets are achieved
  • Team leadership, including performance management, objective setting and motivation
  • Aware of and comply with the GE Oil & Gas Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations as they apply to this job type/position
  • Complete all planned Quality & Compliance training within the defined deadlines
  • Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required
  • Ensures the creation of accurate, complete and timely records
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout materials department and in support of production floor lean, Oil & Gas Operating System and Brilliant Factory initiatives

    Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years experience in inventory management, shop operations, facilitation ,and production control in a manufacturing environment, production planning, inventory management principles and practices, or materials management disciplines

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Strong Logistics, Supply chain management and Material Management skills.
  • Hands-on experience using / implementing an SAP
  • Exposure to JIT, Kanban, and MRP
  • Experience implementing Lean manufacturing methods and practices
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability setting and meeting aggressive targets and goals
  • Self-motivated, high energy individual with passion for excellence and the ability to energize others
  • Results oriented and capable of leading projects; forward thinking & proactive
  • Flexible and adaptable: Open to change and modification of tasks.
  • Operational finance knowledge
  • Proven ability to drive change in a matrix environment
  • Ability to successfully motivate and maintain employee involvement while driving change
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Strong business and analytical ability
  • Ability to effectively manage changing and conflicting priorities and resolve appropriately
