Role Summary:
The candidate for this position will lead development for software products in the WAMS segment, a sub-segment of Transmission as part of Software Solutions. In this role, this person will be responsible for definition and execution of software releases for new product development and customer funded development.

Essential Responsibilities:

The role encompasses the activities of teams in Redmond, Washington and Edinburgh, Scotland as well as some offshore resources. In addition to product deliverables, the candidate for this role would also be responsible for setting and improving quality standards, engineering tools, and driving product evolution in conjunction with GE’s Digital strategy.

As part of this role, the candidate would perform the following:
• Staff, lead, and drive Engineering teams and programs for Transmission sub segment.
• Be accountable for delivering software releases with regard to quality, schedule, and scope delivery.
• Drive objectives for sub-segment, business, and broad company objectives
• Integrate & develop processes that meet business needs across the organization.
• Manage teams over multiple sites.
• Lead teams of engineers directly and indirectly to execute & complete assignments
• Financial management of multiple projects
• Schedule development/management of multiple projects
• Develop scope-of-work specifications including those of contractors/subcontractors where appropriate.
• Work closely with other disciplines including Project Management, Marketing, Product Line Leaders, and Sourcing.
• Enable and drive product line convergence and next generation architecture aligned with GE Digital
• Manage team of engineers including performance & technical development • Establish & drive productivity metrics while improving solution quality to the customer
• Create, communicate & drive clear operating and prioritization rhythm for the team
• Establish a clear communications rhythm with the business leadership
• Work as part of a global team supporting product line issues and technical strategy.
• Up to 10% travel required including international


Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience with:
• Proven years of experience in a software management role
• Proven years of experience in a leadership position within a team of engineers including project management and engineering management tasks.
• Proven years Financial, Schedule, and Quality management of multiple projects
• Proven years Scope Management experience including use of Change Orders and Risk Registers

Desired Characteristics:

• Proven experience as a leader of people on software development projects, can readily obtain team buy in, and can easily resolve day-to-day issues
• Strong understanding of Agile Methodologies and experience applying agile to development practices
• Knowledge of Kanban process and experience applying.
• Strong risk management skills
• Ability to understand and work with products and system environments with high reliability requirements.
• Proven experience in Configuration Management
• Experience as a software developer
• Strong Quality focus
• Demonstrated effectiveness in organizational and communication skills
• Ability to succeed in and lead a team and matrixed environment
• Experience leading by influence
• Proven experience working with global teams geographically distributed.
• Able to apply principles of logical or scientific reasoning to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
• Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market, and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding, and capability of the business
• Ability to apply managerial/ leadership concepts and techniques (plan, execute, direct, coach, mentor, evaluate, and control); *Problem analysis and resolution skills
• Working knowledge of Agile, Iterative and Component based methodologies
• Able to work under moderate supervision
• Ability to travel to customer/other GE sites for short periods as required.
