Role Summary:
In this role the Senior Product Application Engineer - Cooling will act as a senior technical expert in cooling water treatment of refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants, steel mills, universities, and similar industrial and commercial facilities.

Essential Responsibilities:
As the Senior Product Application Engineer - Cooling, you will:

  • Provide technical troubleshooting and auditing of cooling water systems and programs at key customer sites
  • Develop action plans and drive execution to solve the toughest technical problems
  • Attend high-level customer meetings and present technical information to key operations, engineering, and plant management
  • Work closely with the commercial team in responding to RFQ’s and designing and optimizing treatment programs. Develop documentation to support and justify recommendations
  • Conduct regular and advanced cooling water technical training sessions with the commercial team
  • Conduct cooling water seminars at customer sites and corporate headquarters
  • Participate in Fast Works type new product initiatives including obtaining suitable trial sites
  • Participate or own one or more direct material productivity improvement (DMP) teams
  • Assist in shaping the direction of the product line by providing experience based insights, ideas, suggestions and data driven opinions. May be asked to develop and conduct technical and marketing surveys in support of product line related improvement initiatives
  • Design and monitor plant trials and lab experiments to optimize program performance
  • Manage remote teams, directing local on-site personnel who are responsible for specific information gathering
  • Participate in cross functional teams to asses and or respond to new industry developments, competitive offerings, new chemical treatment technology, water treatment equipment and monitoring tools that relate to cooling water. Work with Product Management to develop and execute an appropriate action plan and communications
  • Create technical content for case histories, best practice documents, customer facing technical advisories, reference manuals, and industry playbooks
  • Participate in industry technical conferences and committees to properly represent GE’s position on key cooling water related issues
  • Communicate GE Water advantages and knowledge through internal and external publications, conferences, and presentations
  • Own or assist in the development of new calculation and program selection tools
  • Work closely with Product Management, Technology, Commercial teams, customers, and industry contacts to support, and drive new business initiatives

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or other technical discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in chemical treatment of water systems and direct experience in cooling water chemistry
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically a minimum of 25%, as required

Desired Characteristics:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or Chemistry
  • Deep domain knowledge in at least one and preferably two major industries
  • Excellent oral communication skills. Comfortable developing and delivering high level technical presentations to senior leaders at customer sites and within GE. Experience speaking in front of large groups
  • Able to interface with customers at the highest levels
  • Superior writing skills. Able to independently compose documents that are clear, concise, well written, and require a minimum to no rework by others
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Capable of handling multiple projects in a fast paced environment and prioritizing to meet business objectives
  • Willingness to take on both technical troubleshooting and business improvement assignments
  • Self-starter that can accept broad based assignments and work with minimal
  • day to day supervision. Capacity to recognize important gaps in business processes, procedures, documentation and available data and craft a reasonable solution
  • Able to influence the decisions and direction of senior management and technical personnel (within and outside GE) through executive presence, speaking, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Refinery, power plant, chemical plant or other heavy industry process or project engineering experience
  • Independent thinker capable of producing original work. Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to work on or lead a cross-functional team and deliver results
  • Experience publishing technical papers and presenting at industry trade shows and conferences
