Role Summary: Successful candidate will be a part of Machine Head subsystem in the Renewable Engineering CoE. The role offers technically leading a team on Wind Gearboxes for 1.x /2.x/3.x & next generation turbines.
Essential Responsibilities: Lead the team on projects pertaining to new products, technology, processes and field issues. Accountable for all the deliverables pertaining to life cycle of Wind Turbine Gearboxes (main, pitch & yaw) including sub-systems (lubrications systems, bearings, and interconnecting parts). Lead the team on supplier development, manufacturing & field support, cost out, should cost/VAVE Identify & champion technology development & roadmap for gearboxes Partner proactively with other organizations within engineering to drive first-time yield quality for interfaces with other subsystems including electrical, rotor, tower, loads & controls Resource planning, project management and mentoring Collaborate with cross functional teams for managing the product life cycle including drawings, BoM, specifications check Coordinate tasks cross-functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, planning, field support and others to improve first time yield Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing on the production. May need to travel to supplier locations per business need Work with external agency for obtaining required certifications
Qualifications/Requirements: Masters in Mechanical Engineering with 15+ yrs. of experience in heavy duty gearboxes especially parallel stage and planetary gearbox design and development Thorough knowledge of codes and standards ISO/ DIN/ AGMA for gears, shafts, bearings etc. Experience in drawing and model review, tolerance selection, stack-up analysis Through knowledge on materials, manufacturing processes of castings, forgings, machining, quality control processes, validation testing and inspection techniques Thorough knowledge on bearings, lubrication, cooling systems, testing Knowledge of FMEA, should cost analysis, FE analysis is an added advantage Proficiency in gearbox design calculation software like Kisssoft-Kisssys Proven ability of leading teams and navigating in a large matrixed organization
Desired Characteristics: Significant experience with Wind gearboxes design and development Strong understanding of general physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals Track record of proactive thinking & action to ensure quality Strong issue resolution skills Strong leadership skills, including ability to partner, communicate, & influence at any organizational level Strong interpersonal skills including: presence, high credibility, and ability to develop relationships Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders, especially supply chain & suppliers, to influence outcomes Prior experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) programs with proven ability delivering complex project objectives on schedule, within budget, & with quality Demonstrated ability for clear thinking and concise communication, internally and with customers Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills, including experience working with customers Six Sigma Green Belt quality certification or equivalent quality certification Proven written and oral communication skills in English language
