Digital Lab Director – Power Digital Solutions

Role Summary:
As a Digital Solution Lab Leader, you're directly contributing to Power Digital China business vision and growth by leading a team to work with internal and external groups. As a senior leader, you will combine software/analytics development and systems integration expertise with an aptitude for technical advising, troubleshooting and analysis.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Staff the China Lab, train and grow the Lab team towards the necessary level of self-efficiency. Continue to assess team capability gaps and develop plan accordingly.
  • Work closely with multiple Power Services global and regional team to identify the knowledge and techniques that need to be acquired based on current China market trends. Learn and help knowledge and technical transition of coal-power from headquarter to China. Align team members and lead different projects on application, requisition etc.
  • Prioritize continuously in accordance with the understanding and validation of customer problems and needs. Work with cross-functional teams to deliver the acquired knowledge, techniques and major, complex products
  • Drive and grow local analytics capability within the Lab to position Power Digital China team for local innovations in the China power market.
  • Fully support and enable the existing Power Digital solution/project delivery in China by working closely with China Customer Success. Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Responsible for directing engineering activities around the assessment, scope of project & strategic implementation plan to meet the project and product milestones.
  • Responsible for China Lab process definition, implementation, improvement, and sustainability through developed operating rhythms.
  • Provide technical direction and scope support for efforts utilizing internal and contract development resources.
  • Create Proof Of Concept (POC) for feasibility study
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams; mentor others in the organization
  • Drives new ways of thinking, across groups within the division, to improve quality, engineering productivity and responsiveness to feedback and changing priorities. Finds opportunities for collaboration across groups in the division, ensures that cross-team commitments are set, and achieves scale in his or her work efforts by enabling the work of others. Tailors communication to a variety of audiences and perspectives, and anticipates issues to prevent conflict. Subject matter expert in processes and methodologies with ability to adapt and improvise in various situations. Expert in navigating through ambiguity and prioritizing conflicting asks.
  • Chooses the appropriate internal or external technologies, incorporates research, creates designs that are reused across the team, and is an excellent judge of practices that work well. Defines quality metrics, best practices and design patterns, and provides deep expertise on the enterprise solution strategy. Produces simple, elegant solutions, and resolves the most difficult problems in the vendor product(s). Resolves issues outside his or her area of responsibility and opens discussions with peers and take actions when needed to ensure the success of the enterprise solution.

• Master Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls/Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science/IT or related Engineering discipline
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience of leading R&D Team in multinational companies required
• Minimum of 2 years’ experiences of product and project support in engineering role
• Strong analytics and system integration capabilities, and preferably good understanding of power industry

Desired Characteristics:
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% as required
• Experiences in data analytics, system integration, industrial big data analysis and modeling
• Experiences of working in Power Industry
• Strong communication and fluent English skills to work with global teams
• Ability to lead a start-up team and align members to achieve objectives
• Experience working in an independent and highly matrixed environment, coordinating across multiple sites, functions, and time zones, with simultaneous projects • Experienced with MS Visio, Excel, Outlook, and Word
• Desires of taking on responsibility for business success and interfacing regularly with business leadership
• GE Control system training, and proficiency with Web-based applications such as PLM, SupportCentral workflows/ Folders (Internal candidates only)
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams and/or projects in a technical, engineering & global environment
• Strong bias for action; mechanically-minded; high energy
• Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal, written communication skills, and presentation skills knowing when to use more technical detail and when to summarize; ability to work with fellow engineers as well as corporate or senior leadership at customer
• Demonstrated organizational skills and enjoys structured, transactional, and process-oriented work
• Strong team player and change agent at a business level
• Solid analytical competencies, ability to troubleshoot quickly and on-the-fly, especially at customer locations
