Role Summary:
We are looking for a highly motivated & passionate technology executive to join GE Oil & Gas Digital team. As the Senior Director – Operations Optimization, GE Digital, this role will focus on driving and delivering extremely impactful and innovative solutions for production deployments of GE Digital products.

Essential Responsibilities:
The candidate will be responsible for leading a squad of highly talented and motivated operations engineering teams comprised of DevOps engineers, site reliability engineers and infrastructure architects. You will be responsible for the design of production infrastructure in various hosting models, from physical data centers to different cloud provides like AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud and develop innovative solutions for seamless deployments of application changes to production. You will liaison with Predix platform architecture team and GE Digital Oil and Gas product teams to implement highly available, redundant, scalable and secure production infrastructure and deployments. You will also be responsible for driving the implementation of latest monitoring technologies to ensure uptime SLAs are achieved.

As Sr Director, you will:

  • Lead multiple Site Reliability and DevOps team members globally that will be responsible for delivering scalable and innovative solutions for production deployments in a continuous deployment model.
  • Manage Operations teams and Individual Contributors that work with Product development and Predix Platform team to drive solutions that deliver high quality deployments with fail-back design.
  • Manage the architecture initiatives in Operations by working with product and platform architects to absorb new technologies into operations.
  • Explore and evaluate different hosting providers and establish data centers in different geographical locations of the world.
  • Work with Information Security team and drive implementation of technologies and measures to ensure the production infrastructure stays highly secure and is compliant with regulations.
  • The leader is both a technical leader within the function and also is responsible for developing and coaching his/her employees within the function.
  • Be able to influence from both a strategic and technical standpoint across the function and business.
  • Ability to influence at the peer level is key.
  • Optimize and define new processes and tools, to enable large scale enterprise-grade software deployments.
  • Overall be seen as a champion within the organization, possessing strong cross-functional collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, developmental opportunities, etc. to direct/indirect reports within broader team.


Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
  • A minimum of 15+ years of Production Operations experience along with established leadership across the discipline and function with over 8 years in leading teams of Site Reliability Engineers.

  • Must be willing to travel (roughly 20% of the time) to meet with teams spread across the globe
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA

  • Expertise in technical project management and a proven track record for delivering projects on time with limited budget and resources
  • Experience working with global engineering and operations teams
  • Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge, and experience with multitier architecture
  • Mission critical complex systems experience is preferred
  • Demonstrates expertise in problem solving and technical innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering on commitments to clients.

Technical Expertise:
  • Experience working directly with Cloud providers/infrastructure (AWS, Azure etc.), database technologies, operating systems (Windows, Linux) and orchestration tools (Chef, puppet)
  • Proven track record of strong people management within at least one discipline and or expertise within the discipline.
  • Strong cross functional collaboration and influencing skills at high levels
  • Ability to make decisions that have deep impact.
  • Spearheads adoption of industry standards within the company; and evangelizes shared best practices and estimation techniques across teams at GE.
  • Guides, influences and determines decisions regarding companywide adoption of new technologies.
  • Evangelizes modern technologies to operations teams, stakeholders and GE executives.
  • Prior experience with working across the full technology stack, including the use of Cloud hosting and micro-services architecture
  • Strong experience launching a SaaS product for commercialization
  • Experience of managing large geographically distributed operations team
