Role Summary:
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the daily production of the operations and maintenance staff by leading improvement initiatives to meet key business objectives of product quality, manufacturing cost reduction, product delivery, capacity growth, equipment reliability and productivity improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:
The Operations Manager will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the Bakersfield facility. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

In addition you will:
  • Provide leadership in the attainment of goals with respect to safety, quality, cost, production and compliance
  • Understand and communicate daily production metrics and make necessary changes in staffing, work assignments, schedule and equipment to assure goals are met
  • Ensure that resources committed to executing production demands meet customer requirements while critical business metrics, such as productivity and overtime costs are optimized
  • Ensure assigned employees are aware / comply with all GE government, customer and applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Develop necessary business plans to enhance all program requirements, including throughput, labor hours, cycle, cost producibility, and image
  • Be responsible for time and attendance management, performance reviews and conflict resolution for production employees within assigned department
  • Work closely with Corporate Engineering and act as Project Manager for all capital expenditures and manages projects directly related to improved product quality, process capability, productivity and yields
  • Coordinate efforts with Maintenance personnel, communicate plans and contingencies to production personnel and follow up on the adherence to any written deviations
  • Troubleshoot production problems, whether process or material issues, and implement corrections through required change control to minimize impact to production and eliminate root cause
  • Support an environment of team based continuous improvement incorporating Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Determine root cause and implement corrective action through required change control for any assigned customer quality issues using strong analytical, statistical, and problem solving skills
  • Ensure compliance of production employees regarding current Quality Management Systems
  • Ensure employee compliance with EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) policies, procedures, and regulations as required working closely with EHS to ensure strict compliance to SWPPP, SPCC and all other applicable environmental permits Participates and leads all local Safety Teams and committees
  • Recruit, train, develop and lead all assigned production operators
  • Proficient in extracting data and required reports from SAP to track, monitor, and troubleshoot electronic flow of information through the purchasing, inventory management, customer order management, and inter site logistics modules of the SAP system
  • Lead the plant operations in the absence of the Plant Manager


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a shop leadership position


Desired Characteristics:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a shop leadership position in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • OMLP graduate (GE candidates only)
  • Excellent understanding of chemical processing and material handling equipment
  • DOT Hazmat certified
  • Knowledge of manufacturing policies and regulations established by GE as well as government and other customers
  • Knowledge of the disciplines of manufacturing management such as production and inventory control, and standard cost systems
  • Strong employee relation's skills, including coaching and communication and demonstrated ability to train and mentor production employees
  • Experience with hourly direct reports
  • Experience with Management of Change processes including P&ID documentation updates
  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent Quality training
  • Experience with enterprise business systems, SAP
  • Strong leadership skills; self-starter that works well in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and assign right prioritization
  • Effective risk manager; knowing when to escalate, defining risk mitigation plans and know when to invoke them
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and organizational skills in a matrix organization
