Role Summary: The Logistics Specialist is responsible for interfacing with internal and external customers, freight forwarders, freight carriers and any other parties regarding transportation in the supply chain. Develop cost reduction, and improved shipment strategies by analyzing supply chains and trade routes. The Logistics Specialist is responsible for defined work or projects with moderate complexity.
Essential Responsibilities: In this role you will follow an individual work plan, meet day-to-day short-term objectives, and resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
In the role of Logistics Specialist you will:
Negotiate contractual terms, pricing structures, and fixed demurrage rates
Interact with business leaders regarding freight forwarder / GE approved carrier usage and performance to increases visibility regarding over dimensional or urgent high priority shipments
Interact with other GE businesses to initiate the same type of usage and performance qualities in order to perform logistics operations more efficiently and to ensure GE’s exposure to liability is controlled by the use of qualified transportation providers during all phases of logistic operations
Drive information sharing regarding international transportation providers
Lead efforts to reduce transportation costs for businesses and assist in driving costs out
Track shipments from global suppliers and drive on time deliveries via use of daily tracking process with SharePoint, Shipping Lines, and Freight Forwarders
Ensure timely submission of customs document submission to facilitate fast and accurate deliveries
Facilitate use of required planning and forecasting tools to simplify overall Logistics process
Develop optimum Logistics model to drive the most efficient flow of materials and products
Pursue logistics functional excellence in all areas
Gathering, analyzing and maintaining a set of relevant KPIs
Ensuring adherence to any government container regulations (World Customs Organization mandates)
Filing and follow-up of freight claims
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED and a minimum 4 years of experience in a logistics or operations role)
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a logistics or operations role
Minimum 2 years of experience working directly with customers in a customer service focused position
Experience Managing Third Party Logistics interactions
Experience creating and analyzing KPIs
Experience in interfacing with international freight handlers
Experience in filing and follow-up of relevant documentation for all areas of international freight
Lean / Six Sigma process improvement methodologies
Understanding of International supply chains
Demonstrated understanding of International shipping regulations
Experience working with US Import and Export regulations
HAZMAT and DOT Material transportation logistics
Skilled in fostering transportation supplier relationships
Ability to analyze, evaluate, improve and document processes and procedures
Ability to maintain focus in an environment subject to constant change and tight deadlines
Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
Strong Oral and written communications
Demonstrated Analytical skills and ability to solve problems with creative ideas
