Role Summary: Application Engineering: Understanding the customer's plant level requirement /CTQ for conversions, modifications & uprates and prepare technical proposal for plant level solutions including Boiler, Mills, Steam Turbine, Generator, Emission Abatement system, Digital, Balance of Plant technology/ products. Work closely with Product design/ Engineering teams, performance teams and commercial/sales teams in addressing customer CTQs/needs.
Essential Responsibilities: • Ensure accurate application of GE technology to plant level challenges/ opportunities to achieve customer requirements such as output, efficiency, flexibility and reliability improvements. • Engineering interface with other project/ engineering team members, sourcing/ supply chain, sub-suppliers, vendors, external partners and other sectors/segments involved in the project (procurement, quality, construction and logistics etc.) • Leading and supporting the installed base evaluation team considering the time-cost quality and targets, to secure the success of the project. • Detailed technical offer preparation including scope, schedule, cost, performance, responsible for the overall quality of the proposal. • Initiation and co-ordination of technical decisions within the proposal such as scope, cycle and equipment optimization based on input from Commercial, Sales and Solution Architect. • Coordinating with project management office (PMO) for the preparation of the civil and erection bills of quantities (BoQ) for construction/erection estimation. • Definition of technical risks and evaluation of provision/contingencies in co-operation with the Solution Architect and Product engineering teams. • Deliver technical risk check list along with mitigation plan for the proposal and review with CEO (Chief Engineering Office) or of similar technical board. • Responsible for project scope completeness, consistency and technical integrity, reviewing plant interface of different equipment’s and identifying any technical risks and mitigation plan therewith. • Participate in hand-off process to the requisition and engineering teams on proposals that convert to orders. • Review customer specifications and ensure technical proposal is in-line with requirements and clarify/ manage when there is deviation. • Prepare technical specifications, enquire with sub-suppliers, ensure the scope completeness and costing accordingly. • Review and release of the cost calculation under consideration of the specific cost packages, worked out by the individual product engineers and sub vendors. • Evaluation of actual costs to target costs for GE internal and external partners/ vendors in support with commercial manager. • Work with solution architect for technical clarification and negotiations with customers under the overall lead of the powering efficiency sales leadership.
Qualifications/Requirements: • Master’s/ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience in coal based steam power plant technology • Read/ develop system/ process flow diagram, instrumentation diagram. • Deep expertise in more than one domains of coal based steam power plant Balance of Plant (BoP) packages (steam/ water cycle, heat exchanger, condenser, cooling tower, critical piping, ducts, pumps, fans, valves). • Experience in working with engineering consultancy firms /OEMs/ engineering service providers/ performance monitoring teams. • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Desired Characteristics: • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with specialization in thermal engineering/ energy/ power/ heat power • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills • Candidate should have experience that would demonstrate technical knowledge and understanding of coal plant technology • Experience in plant commissioning, O&M, project management • Experience in a cross-functional environment • Experience working with customers • Basic knowledge of industrial management and industrial administration (commercial aspects of projects) including pro-forma calculations (Net Present Value, NPV) • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (GE employees only)
