Role Summary:
This is a lead position, responsible for helping the UX Director manage an international team building IIoT applications. As the lead, you will be responsible for setting up frameworks that make it possible for the international design team to work with researchers in translating user and business requirements into user flow maps, wireframes and prototypes. In addition, you will also participate in projects as a UX Designer to ensure a great customer experience for your assigned projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
  • Assist the UX Director in organizing the UX Desgin team and documenting best practices to share across the organization.
  • Ability to succinctly utilize a corporate design system to meet GE brand standards and build for reuse; and lead design reviews for compliance
  • Map out the structure of the content and system to accomplish the goals defined by the Stakeholders, the Business Analyst and UX Researchers
  • Collaborate with Engineers / content specialists to ensure that the design is elegant and appropriate, providing proper context for local and international customers
  • Develop interface designs, mock-ups, site maps, user flows
  • Assist the UX researcher in identify design problems through heuristic testing / expert evaluations and design solutions to correct issues. Share design components across team.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features
  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure that the system is usable, accessible and responsive (both for devices and speed) along with meeting minimal accessibility standards
  • Work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects with multi-disciplinary teams

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related discipline and 3+ years of experience in designing responsive applications
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in product or service design OR Master’s degree with 6 years of experience in product or service design.

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job

  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Houston, TX

    Technical Expertise:
  • No-fear around new technology, equipment and navigating the internal systems of a very large company
  • Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, along with familiarity with interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of HTML / CSS / JavaScript
  • Experience with data visualization and GIS a plus
  • Graphic arts experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of principles and guidelines related to UCD, interaction design, information architecture, visual/graphic design and usability
  • Extensive experience in using UX best practices to design solutions along with a solid grasp of UCD principles
  • Strong expertise in creating annotated wireframes, user flows, process flows and site maps
  • Uses generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios
  • Skilled in standard design & wire framing tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Adobe Edge, Keynote, Tumult Hype)
  • Understanding of, or basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus
  • Ability to share portfolio

  • Demonstrates the initiative to explore current industry trends and UCD best practices
  • Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
  • Ability to present designs, drive consensus and negotiate trade-offs effectively

  • Ability to takes ownership of design tasks from inception to completion project management of the UI build
  • Ability to lead a UI development team
  • Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives
