Role Summary:
As VP - Software Engineering for Analytics & Visualization Products, you will provide technical leadership and be responsible for building and leading multiple lean/agile software engineering teams providing Data Ingestion, Analytics & Visualization Framework, and deep machine learning across GE Oil & Gas Digital product lines.

Essential Responsibilities:

As our new VP - Software Engineering, Analytics & Visualization Products you will:

  • Be mainly responsible for leading the teams to build a world-class Data Ingestion and Analytics Framework that enables large scale data ingestion, data management, analytics, visualization & deep machine learning of various Oil & Gas assets and products.
  • Be a technical leader in arriving at an optimal architecture of O&G products on Predix Platform, and deliver features/products working closely with Product Management groups.
  • Manage the software development process, including planning, task assignments, code reviews, and design sign­off.
  • Establish and run agile development and DevOps rhythms, rituals, and artifacts.
  • Focus on customer outcomes. Collaborate with Product Management on product roadmap planning, functional and non-functional requirements and product release planning to ensure we’re building a world-class SaaS product.
  • Build and maintain a world-class team and own the staffing, head-count planning, functional skill mix, expertise, and training programs and processes.
  • Work closely with key stake­holders across the organization to define the technology roadmap that is aligned with the strategic goals of the product group.
  • Build a culture that motivates and energizes the best engineers and encourages the career development of junior team members.
  • Demonstrate independence, creativity and initiative and the ability to master a solid understanding of the Industrial Internet strategy and its business goals.
  • Be a hands-on leader. Conduct and participate in review code, review design docs, give technical talks, teaching classes and develop future leaders.
  • Run a tight ship. Manage development costs to plan; strike the right balance between contract and full-time labor; efficiently procure hardware and software; constantly strive for quality and velocity improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with your team, peers, and GE leadership. Ensure the team receives consistent messages and has a clear understanding of the business environment, product strategy and the results that matter
  • Demonstrate the highest levels of leadership integrity, openness, compliance and honesty in all business interactions

    Success Criteria

    Major personal performance objectives for this role in the first 12 months are:

  • Build and develop an exceptional software engineering team that will create GE Oil & Gas’ Data Ingestion and Analytics Framework
  • Enable our customers to create forward looking visualizations, analytics and insights by successfully delivering several new product releases


    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Major (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
  • Minimum of 10+ years of software development experience along with established leadership across the discipline and function.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing multiple Software Development Managers, preferably in an Agile development environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of expertise developing complex SaaS software in Agile environment

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job

  • Must be willing to travel
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA

    Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience in building large scale enterprise software application frameworks.
  • Expertise in technical project management and a proven track record for delivering projects on time with limited budget and resources.
  • Experience working with off­shore engineering teams
  • Strong distributed systems and architecture knowledge, and experience with multitier architecture
  • Mission critical systems experience is preferred
  • Ability to manage complex technical projects.
  • Demonstrates expertise in problem solving and technical innovation.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering on commitments to clients.
  • Demonstrates capability of 'rolling up sleeves and getting hands dirty'.
  • Works well in fast paced growing environment.
  • Provides excellent influential communication skills and business acumen to both an arbitrator and advocate for technical issues.
  • Experience developing applications in an agile/DevOps environment would be a distinct advantage, including previous experience of writing code
  • Experience working in a Java web development shop
  • Solid understanding of software development tools & infrastructure
  • Effective teaming and problem solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
