Role Summary: Leads a small team of power systems developers to deliver software for customer projects and R&D. Performs assigned software tasks including implementing pre-defined new functionality, development tasks and intermediate to advanced level bug fixes in order to support project deliveries. Has ability and knowledge to mentor more junior engineers on the team.
Perform work generally assigned by the lead engineer, have good understanding of the big picture (i.e. impact of code modifications to related software throughout the project) and complete the assignments with various degree of complexity within budget, on schedule, and to customer's satisfaction and quality expectations
Consults with other technical leads to ensure that project-related system design guidelines are being followed
Provides input to technical lead on schedules and cost estimates
Takes initiative to research the problem and recommend changes to methods or procedures for a problem with the trend
Assists in identifying packaging requirements, gathers information for and prepares software and system level documentation such as software design documents, system installation guides, test plans, programmer's guides, and software maintenance manuals
Interfaces with customers on general and specific issues within area of functional expertise
Provides marketing support for proposals and demonstrations to potential customers
Ensures quality assurance standards and procedures are followed in all aspects of software development
Lead junior staff through completion of specific efforts
Build relationships within and outside the team
Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Operations Research from an accredited university or college
4 years' direct experience in implementing software solutions for power systems Optimization Applications for electricity markets
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 5%.
Strong software skills in C++, Java or other similar/equivalent languages
Stays current with their discipline's technologies, willing to adopt new technologies and facing new challenges
Interested in software design, development and testing
Willing to work with customers directly for requirement clarification or solution offering
Can work independently and a good team player
Good communication skills and willing to make decision based on sound analytical skills and reasoning
Good knowledge of optimization applications in energy industry
