Role Summary:
Sr Engineer - Systems Engineering will be responsible for developing concepts, design of requirements, integrate, develop processes and proposing improvements for wired and wireless Network Communication Systems and applications installed on locomotives. In this role, you will mentor system engineering teams, resolve complex issues within functional areas of expertise, be involved in long - term planning, driving technical vision of team and contribute to overall business strategy.

Essential Responsibilities:
You will work closely with multiple stakeholders - System engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Systems, Electrical Design, Mechanical Packaging, Communications, validation engineering and Requisition Engineering teams to deliver high quality and scalable solutions
- Drive the execution of the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- Responsible for System Subsystem Level Design requirements for wireless communications, networking, video systems / analytics and other functions by providing Product Descriptions, ICDs, FMEAs, DFSS / DFR scorecard, Engineering Support Requests, and other input documents
- Work with Project and Application engineers in developing the detailed application analysis to evaluate its impact on the System and flow down the right system level requirement
- Take ownership of technical concepts, solution, risks / mitigation plans and engineering cost estimates on proposals
- Define and manage Interfaces to all subsystem in compliance to the system solution
- Work with Principal Engineers to generate and execute design review matrix and reviews
- Define/approve System Validation Plans, drive end to end System Validation Testing, and work with Test Engineers to ensure traceability to verifications cross reference matrices
- Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
- Maintain broad awareness of technical / technology trends to ensure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work, reviews and responsiveness to customer / program needs
- Be a Technical leader for the projects across global cross functional teams - Customers, product / program management and SW development, Electrical Integration, Train Control, Office systems, Safety and Applications engineering
- Partner with Subsection Manager, Program Management, and Project / Application Engineers to develop roll out and deployment plans
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments to stakeholders
- Participate with teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues
- Talent management and grooming Lead System Engineers, guiding and creating domain knowledge, mentoring, fosters climate of innovation and exploration

Bachelor's/ Master's degree in Electronics / Electrical, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science Engineering or other technical discipline.
Minimum of 15 years of technical experience along with established technical leadership credentials across product lines.
Minimum of 10 years of hands- on design and implementation experience involving Engineering Systems, Embedded Systems, Hardware, Software and / or Electrical design

Desired Characteristics:
Self-starter with the ability to lead and drive the effort with minimum supervision
Experience working in systems including; Ethernet, TCP / IP, and Short range / Long range wireless communication technology (WiFi, CDMA / GSM, etc.)
Background in System Design and Validation on Embedded systems involving; Microprocessors and Communication Peripherals
Locomotive experience and Knowledge in Locomotive Systems and Railroad Operating Practices
Embedded programming and/or experience with real time operating systems (QNX)
Hands-on capability to handle test equipment and tools (DOORS, scripting languages (Perl, Visual Basic, and DOS), and Excel data manipulation aspects (Condensing large amounts of information))
Understanding and translating customer requirements for wired and wireless communications solutions
Understanding and translating customer requirements for Applications development for software solutions
Experience with DOORs Requirements Management Tools, and ClearQuest Defect Tracking
Experience with System Testing Processes, Tools, and Automation
Ability to implement customer and industry standards and to work in a cross-functional, global environment
Ability to engage and build positive relationships with both customers and internal and external employees
Six Sigma training or equivalent Quality Certification
Understanding of quality models (ISO 9000 and SEICMM)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Standard Technical Leadership skills, behaviors and interpersonal skills
Understanding of engineering standards including; IEEE
Customer Technical Interface experience
System Project Estimation and Bidding Experience
Knowledge of CENELEC norms for the rail industry
GE Transportation Tollgate Lifecycle Process Knowledge
