Role Summary: The Electro-Mechanical Test and Measurement Applications Specialist is responsible for performing static or dynamic tests on a wide variety of power generation equipment and hardware ranging from individual components to fully assembled units. These tests may require the use of acoustic, vibration or operational oscillation measurement equipment and dynamic data acquisition systems in a lab or at a customer site.
Essential responsibilities include setting up test apparatus including instrumentation, data acquisition, postprocessing (using LMS software) and design validation of electro-mechanical machinery
Translate engineering specifications into relevant vibration, acoustic or mechanical oscillation measurement methods for procedures or technical qualification requirements
Directly conduct vibration, acoustic and mechanical oscillation measurements in either shop or field locations or as required to validate existing engineering specifications or new measurement processes
Work with mechanical or electrical engineering groups within GE in the performance of test plans for turbomachinery vibration characterization and evaluation for a wide variety of components and products including instrumentation, fixturing and procedures
Prepare test results summaries and participate in formal and informal reviews of the test data with internal or external customers
Provide technical guidance or training to field service measurement technicians and specialists
Assist the development of training programs and provide technical instruction for these programs
Support the generation of commercial proposals to GE customers
Drive safety, quality and technical excellence
Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines
BS in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or related discipline with at least two years demonstrated experience in setting up and performing vibration testing on industrial equipment
Minimum 2 years of experience in acoustic, vibration or mechanical oscillation measurement with steam turbine, gas turbine or generator technologies including equipment installation, data acquisition, data analysis and reporting
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
Travel at least 60-70%
Familiarity with the implementation and troubleshooting of dynamic instrumentation such as accelerometers, strain gages, proximity probes, pressure probes and typical static instrumentation such as thermocouples, flow sensors and similar sensors
Experience in the use or development of telemetry based measurement systems
Ability to set up and execute tests independently and as part of a team of engineers and technicians
Perform preliminary data reduction, summarize and visualize results in native data acquisition software such as LMS as well as external software such as Excel or MATLAB
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, schedule, motivate and train others
Commitment to teamwork, team success, and strong customer focus
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
