As a Sr Staff UX Interaction Designer you will be the design lead to evolve our airline operations optimization applications. This will include traveling to customer sites and conducting user research, synthesis, concept design and transforming an existing web-based application to meet company platform standards and identified user/market needs. The individual will work as an individual contributor, project leader, and consultant.
Participate in and influence the business-wide discussions relative to the future direction of design and user experience
Leads multiple small to large projects in a cross-functional environment.
Provides leadership, design guidance, and mentorship to team members.
Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage. Frames, scopes and leads the execution of a design project.
Leads constructive design critiques. Leads design team and cross-functional team discussions relative to user experience projects.
Lead and conduct design research with internal and external customers and deliver summaries of investigations to internal stakeholders
Leads and contributes to effective documentation and communication of design (via wireframes, mockups, and requirements engineering). Researches and evaluates emerging design, technology, industry, regulatory and market trends.
Influences changes through others.
Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial Design preferred or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
A minimum of 5+ years of professional experience
Must be willing to travel domestic and internationally for customer research and meetings (expected ~25%)

Uses qualitative and quantitative validation methods effectively, (i.e., usability test, heuristic analysis, user feedback, diary study).
Understands contemporary full stack for web applications. Understands contemporary full stack for mobile applications. Understands typical architecture patterns in enterprise and industrial software (e.g. client-server ERP, cloud-hosted CRM, etc.).
Leads individual interviews/workshop with individual contributors.
Creates research protocols with guidance. Selects appropriate research methods to answer questions and develop holistic understanding of user and customer needs.
Facilitates group understanding of research data; leverages data to derive actionable insights.
Identifies appropriate synthesis techniques to meet the needs of specific business and design situations.
Understands what constitutes a well-defined technical information architecture.
Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
Demonstrates knowledge of business’ structure (P&Ls) and the interplay of functions to support business goals.
Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.
Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.
Self-starter with confidence to tackle complex, ambiguous problem spaces and develop clear and concise strategies and design concepts
Possess excellent communication and presentation skills to communicate strategies/work to customers and/or internal/external stakeholders
Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with product and executive teams
Creates basic project plans for UX projects or the UX portion of a larger development project.
Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives.
Keeps participants focused on task and end process. Guides participation to include all present; solicits information about absent stakeholders.
Expresses UX and design concepts to collaborators on cross functional teams. Goes beyond merely presenting designs, explains the story of the rationale and benefit of design ideas.

Directs and mentors others in critical thinking skills. Helps cross-functional teams use critical thinking skills to engage with questions and problems.

Nice to have:
Background or some experience in Aviation and/or Airline Operations systems and processes
Experience with B2B/Enterprise applications
Experience with data visualization and designing for complex data architecture systems such as analytics-based applications/services
