Role Summary: For our European Technology Center of Excellence, located at Heverlee (Belgium), we are looking for a Metallurgist to perform failure analysis and corrosion mechanism assessment. These metallurgical investigations apply to samples from the water and process treatment industries, such as boilers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, petroleum refineries, reverse osmosis membranes, and this for customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Recognized as an emerging or proven authority in area of material and metallurgical failure analysis and corrosion mechanism assessments. Convert obtained expertise in development of new products and services.
Investigation and reporting of RO membrane fouling and failure mechanisms supporting customer service improvements and new product developments.
Operates SEM-EDXA in failure mechanism assessments and to support other departments.
Meetings with customers: technical discussions, discussion of reports, inspection of equipment.
Applies and interprets multidisciplinary scientific or engineering principles and theories.
Develops creative solutions to complex problems using advance theories and knowledge, even if no precedent exists.
Plans, conducts, and leads one or more projects, under final supervision of Team Leader.
Works with minimal supervision and relates to other team members to achieve common goals.
He/she examines problem from multiple perspectives and provides insightful technical domain advice. He/she has a wide latitude and discretion over methods used to achieve technical objectives.
Resolves difficult challenges in creative ways to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.
Decisions or recommendations result in achieving significant project objectives.
Implements procedures ensuring high quality standards (ISO9001).
Implements data driven quality (6Sigma) improvement plans.
Maintains well established working relations with customers and suppliers to support team objectives.
Prepares technical reports and other communications with interpretation of data and recommendations for future work. Depending on complexity final report is reviewed and approved by Team Leader
If required trains new employees in functional expertise.
Extensive experience in industrial environment or experience with failure analysis and corrosion analysis is required.
