The Sr Staff UX Visual designer is a lead visual designer and part of a global design team focused on building new products for the Aviation industry. In this role, you will help create useful and desirable web and mobile applications for the industrial internet of things. As a Sr Staff UX Visual Designer you lead, consult, or manage multiple user experiences as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.
Participate in and influence the business-wide discussions relative to the future direction of the design system/language and user experience
Provide guidance and governance over the GE design system within Aviation and develop strategies to continue to evolve the design language and usability
Work with interaction designers and user interface developers to design the visual aspects of product user interfaces
Contribute to a visual and interaction design system used across GE software products
Communicate designs via wireframes, prototypes, guidelines, specifications, presentations and discussions
Participate in discussions relative to the future direction of design and user experience for the industrial internet of things
Participate in team discussions about current user experience design projects
Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends
Leads multiple small to large projects in a cross-functional environment. Provides leadership, design guidance, and mentorship to team members.
Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage.
Frames, scopes and leads the execution of a design project. Leads constructive design critiques. Leads design team and cross-functional team discussions relative to user experience projects.
Coaches and consults team members on Agile / Lean UX methodologies. Leads and contributes to effective documentation and communication of design (via detailed instructions for typography, spacing, color and UI behaviors).
Researches and shares emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends. Influences changes through others.
Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction, Graphic, or Industrial Design preferred or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
Typically, 5+ years’ experience.

Eligibility requirement: Must be willing to travel domestic and internationally for customer research and meetings (expected ~20%)
Understands what constitutes a well-defined visual design systems and technical architecture.
Able to work with established design systems, mitigate gaps and identify opportunities to refine and evolve the design language and aesthetics
Uses qualitative and quantitative validation methods effectively, (i.e., usability test, heuristic analysis, user feedback, diary study).
Experience working with large data sets and multi-tiered operational procedures
Able to understand complex data structures and translate them into simple and effective novel visualizations or appropriate formats
Understands contemporary full stack for web applications. Understands contemporary full stack for mobile applications. Understands typical architecture patterns in enterprise and industrial software (e.g. client-server ERP, cloud-hosted CRM, etc.).
Leads individual interviews/workshop with individual contributors.
Selects appropriate research methods to answer questions and develop holistic understanding of user and customer needs.
Facilitates group understanding of research data; leverages data to derive actionable insights.
Identifies appropriate synthesis techniques to meet the needs of specific business and design situations.
Understands key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important. Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
Demonstrates knowledge of business’ structure (P&Ls) and the interplay of functions to support business goals.
Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.
Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.

Background or some experience in Aviation and/or Airline Operations systems and processes
Experience with B2B/Enterprise applications
Experience with data visualization and designing for complex data architecture systems such as analytics-based applications/services
