Role Summary: As a Senior Software Technical Writer, you will be responsible for working independently on technical writing projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce high-quality documentation. Also, you will contribute to larger team on projects as needed.
In this role, you will:
Efficiently document processes, installations, etc.
Be skilled in the process of breaking down software processes and effectively communicating the breakdown in writing
Actively participate in daily Scrum stand-up meetings , weekly planning, and review meetings
Have the ability to estimate the working time required to complete a task
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, primarily Software Engineering, Quality Assurance, Design, Project Management, and Marketing to produce high-quality, accurate, and concise customer documentation
Independently deliver Online Help, User Guide, Installation Guide, Administrator Guide, Release Notes and Whitepapers for multiple products
Develop topic-based single-source documentation using MadCap Flare and Confluence
Test the user interface for consistency, simplified workflow, and internationalization
Coordinate all translations for assigned product suites as required
Validate, test, review, and edit new and existing customer documentation for quality
Actively participate in daily Scrum meetings, weekly planning, and review meetings
Track and manage project efforts using issue tracking software such as JIRA or Rally
Participate in active learning and knowledge sharing sessions with peers in the Technical Publications department
Bachelor’s degree (OR high school diploma with at least 8 years’ experience in a technical writing role)
A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical writing or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience with technical writing

Has a solid understanding of Lean/Agile/XP software development processes and their application to GE projects
Creates and maintains wiki-based User Guides, Training Guides, Implementation Guides, Release Notes, Quick Reference Guides and other collateral material.
Designs, develops, and maintains training materials to facilitate instructor-led classroom training classes and online video training.
Constructs and maintains datasets to support training materials and user testing.
Participates in developing documentation and testing plans for new applications and/or features.
Communicates regularly with Business Analysts and Developers in an Agile environment to ensure documentation is accurate and effective.
Documents end-user online help system based on written specifications, interviews with other team members, and hands-on testing of the applications.
Assumes responsibility for managing and coordinating the online help system.
Helps to create and maintain a controlled glossary of application specific terminology / acronyms
Possesses a working understanding of the Oil and Gas industry and expresses this understanding, where appropriate, in documentation
Possesses an awareness of the major aspects of software development, namely test automation, build & deploy, debugging, performance optimization, & data structures
Possesses a full understanding of the way that the product provides value to the customer
Skilled in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
Has the ability to effectively collaborate with other technical writers and other individuals within the business to drive outcomes
Has the ability to learn through experiences on tasks that require novel skills and apply that learning to future tasks
Ability to takes ownership of small and medium sized tasks and deliver while mentoring and helping team members
