Role Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer will provide daily technical support and long term project management to a defined production line. Our Grove City location is a COE for the machining of high tolerance diesel engine components using a variety of machining and turning centers. The products produced range from highly engineered cast and ductile iron, a variety of steel and stainless steels, and non-ferrous metals.
Essential Responsibilities: In addition, you will:
Coordinate members of the cross-functional team to drive execution on projects related to Productivity, Infrastructure, Growth, EHS, and GE’s Brilliant Factory / Digital Thread initiative. Key deliverables will be developing proposed options, determining payback, creating layouts, specifying / purchasing / installing the appropriate equipment, accuracy / completeness of product and process data, training of employees, and meeting budgeted investment/expense, schedule and savings targets.
Lead machining improvement projects as the technical lead for a multi-machine production line. Identify programming, tooling, fixturing and/or process improvements; create cost and time estimates for completion of projects identified
Interact daily with CNC programmers and quality engineers to increase first time yield, machine uptime and time on product
Lead cross-functional workouts to ensure desired process is identified and the necessary manufacturing equipment is specified, purchased, and installed in the agreed upon line layout
Write equipment specifications, create Request for Quote packages, create requisitions and purchase orders, organize contractors for equipment installation, and manage receipt transactions for vendor payment
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrix organization to drive positive change while ensuring clear ownership and communication exists among the team
Process product change orders, update process documentation and identify process shortcomings created by product changes
Communicate progress, status, and issues to the business
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university or an Associate’s Degree with 3 years of manufacturing experience
A minimum of 3 years manufacturing experience
Willing and able to work various days / various hours as needed
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
Machining knowledge in one or more machining disciplines (milling, lathe, or grinding operations)
Substantial CMM programming experience
Knowledge of robotics programming or robotic cell setups
Working knowledge of solid modeling software or CAM software (Siemens NX preferred)
Strong manufacturing shop floor computer systems skills and preferred experience with Siemens Team Center Product Life Cycle Management software
Excellent written / oral communication skills, influencing and interpersonal skills
Understanding of the Lean Six Sigma tools
Six Sigma training - Green Belt / Black Belt preferred
Self-starter; takes the initiative to identify and implement new ideas.
Strong analytical / problem solving skills.
Ability to work with a variety of teams including both the shop floor and salary exempt personnel
