Role Summary: The Electromagnetic Engineer (EE) must be capable of leading the electromagnetic design of assigned projects, and provide technical guidance to young engineers on electromagnetic principles and techniques. Projects will predominantly be high speed permanent magnet alternators and motors, but may include other machine types such as induction and wound field.
The EE must have a thorough understanding of electromagnetic principles and analyses, and in particular the magnetic structure and relationships of electrical machines. The EE will use in-house and commercial design software to perform lumped parameter calculations, as well as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as necessary. The EE will interact closely with other design functions including mechanical and design / drafting. The EE will coordinate the EMAG design with associated power electronics and regulators.
The Principal Duties & Responsibilities will include the following :
Perform electromagnetic design analyses and calculations as required
Lead new materials selection and development efforts to provide state-of-the-art technological advantages
Prepare and present analyses results to large groups of people
Review design results of young engineers for completeness and accuracy
Develop and implement standard design practices from lessons learned
Interpret and clarify customer technical expectations
Work with the Engineering Team to meet internal unit cost and develop cost targets
Define and maintain technical compliance to customer requirements
Meet schedule deadlines
Coordinate the technical design with other Unison resources in the execution of assigned projects, including Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations and the integrated product team
Write technical proposals and present technical information to customers
Provide direct support to manufacturing and assist in process development and control, improvement efforts, failure analysis, and problem solving
Other Assignments may include :
Be the primary technical customer point of contact
Internal research & development
Resolution of field issues
Preparation of design & analysis reports
Other coordination and problem solving projects as assigned
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college
Minimum of eight (8) years professional industry experience
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT :
Ability and availability to travel up to 20% (Domestic and International)
Advanced degree from an accredited university or college - would be a plus
Obtain Six Sigma Green Belt Certification within 1 year
Experience in product design / analysis or product development leadership is highly desirable
Background in the aerospace or heavy industrial marketplace either in manufacturing or an engineering discipline
Strong materials background in magnet and magnetic properties
Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
Solid oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

The Norwich facility provides product & design engineering, new product manufacturing, repair, overhaul, and technical support for customers. Major product lines include Power generation and control systems for gas turbine engines, metal encased ignition leads, sensors, space ignition systems, and satellite harnesses. Less than an hour and a half from Syracuse and 2 hours from the state capital of Albany, NY our Norwich location employs a multitalented workforce of 300+ employees who also live in the picturesque surroundings of upstate NY.
