In this role, the candidate will provide Customs subject matter expertise while supporting the operations and/or a specific program initiative. The candidate will be responsible to ensure processes are under full controllership and compliance.
Develop and implement strategy for Customs operations in the country aligned with Global Customs Enterprise Standard.
Ensure the pre-declaration review is performed including confirmation that valuation, classification, country of origin and any applicable special program documentation is complete before an import or export occurs.
Work with approved agents to support daily customs clearances and own shipment issue resolution.
Identify Customs risks areas and develop actionable plans and procedures to mitigate those risks.
Evaluate internal controls and drive implementation of recommended improvement plans.
Act as liaison to local and regional Customs officials in resolving Customs authorities inquiries and audits related to specific transactions and processes.
Provide operational support of all shipments into and out of Region by interfacing with Customs agents, 3rd parties, business representatives and internal team members.
Prepare periodic reports and metrics on duty, quality, savings, opportunities, risks, accomplishments and value creation.
Participate on applicable GE Customs Council Communities.
Lead, coach, coordinate and motivate the Customs team by promoting and developing talent, strengthening pipeline and promoting reward & recognition.
4 year College degree from an accredited university or In country Professional Customs Certification/ Accreditation or high school diploma or equivalent.
At least 6 years relevant experience.
3+ years experience in Customs.
In country Professional Customs Certification or Accreditation.
Previous management experience.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to communicate complex information efficiently based on audience needs.
Experience with driving process improvements.
Self starter/team player.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
