Role Summary: The Designer provides clear, complete, and accurate graphics and detail drawings needed to manufacture component parts which meet customer requirements in a timely manner.
Essential Responsibilities: In the role of Designer you will:
Analyze customer’s purchase order and specifications, and organize development of the work order (e.g., calculating gear ratios, selecting materials, composing specification data sheets, preparing blueprint mark-ups, etc.
Make a final, workable graphic design, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project
Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings
Provide illustrations and graphic designs using necessary detailed requirements from a sketch of a part, sub-assembly, or simple component of a power transmission to ensure that each part built by LUFKIN’s Power Transmission Division meets specific design standards
Work as a team, interfacing with draftsmen, engineers, and shop personnel to make any necessary adjustments or changes to ensure the accuracy and workability of the designs
Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software in the design process. Use PC word processing and spread sheets effectively
Perform special projects as assigned
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution with a minimum 3 years if experience in Drafting & Design)
Minimum 1 year of experience in Drafting & Design
Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required
Ability and willingness to work in a constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities
Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required
Ability to work with fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
Ability to calculate figures, such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to use analytical skills to interpret a variety of concrete variables in situations requiring personal initiative
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of computer-assisted drawing (CAD)
