Essential Responsibilities:
Provide mechanical engineering design leadership for modality components and subsystems. Lead design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models and essential component and assembly details to explore multiple design options. Develop innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability. Lead quality engineering projects that provide imaginative solutions to engineering and customer issues. Develop and maintain mechanical subsystem quality and engineering project funnel. Provide guidance and requirements to new product development teams in order to improve quality of new releases. Verify product sub-system reliability performance. Conduct analysis of installed base and new product reliability using FMEA, Weibull Analysis and DFR tools. Ensure reliability, performance and delivery through supplier relationships. Act as activity leader of department activities within a project (Time-plan, resource need, status reports, monitor costs, resource usage, technology requirements and solutions etc). Responsible for technology management within assigned field (internal and external). Initiate development of new technologies. Choose design concepts and solutions, components, tools and methods. Mentor and provide support. Participate in design reviews. Responsible for mechanical design and analysis of superconducting magnets and components used in MRI systems; structural design and stress analysis under static, dynamic and Thermal loads; and component structural design and analysis at room, elevated and cryogenic temperatures. Perform failure and fatigue analysis. Participate in prototype build and manufacturing support of mechanical assemblies. Design large scale hardware for casting and composite manufacture. Perform reliability analysis of components and systems and Design for Reliability. Perform vibration, Modal and forced response analysis and hands on verification testing. Involved in design and implementation of verification activities using accelerometers, strain gages, spectrum Analyzers. Perform Installed Base data analysis and reduction. Lead resolution of issues relating to Installed Base Systems. Prepare/present design analysis reports and part/assembly drawing reviews. Develop product, component test and purchase specifications. Design leadership of productivity projects (both product cost and life cycle cost reduction). Coordinate cross-functional design, analysis and testing. Provide creative solutions to unstructured product and system design issues from both factory and field. Comply with the Quality Manual, Quality Management System, Quality Management Policy, Quality Goals, and applicable laws and regulations. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required. Ensure compliance/ closure of Regulatory and Quality requirements before approving Design Outputs/Program Deliverables. Lead continuous improvement activities by driving the implementation of process and product quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements:
Master’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field, and five (5) years of experience in related engineering position required. The position also requires 5 years experience in superconducting MRI magnet design; some hardware experience with mechanical systems and components; some experience with Helium bath and cryo-free magnet; some experience with CAE (Pro-E, ANSYS classic and Workbench); some experience with paper to product and tolerance analysis and read and apply GD&T; and some experience working with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams.
