Role Summary:
Our team is creating the next generation of Data analytics platform that will utilize sensors and Big Data to deliver insights in IIOT. The innovative and proprietary platform is rapidly evolving, we are looking to identify an individual to establish the Inspection Business Flight Standardization department. This person will work with different organizations and business units within GE to develop safe operational procedures and evaluation standards for internal and external operations teams.

Essential Responsibilities:
The Director of Flight Standards & Safety will be responsible for the development, integration, and evaluation of all remotely piloted vehicles (sUAS, UAS, etc) within the Inspection business and partner operators. This individual will be the Business’ lead representative for Flight Standardization of sUAS for our industrial customers. The high-impact & highly visible role involves strong knowledge of sUAS and UAS and developing flight standardization for environmental, health, and safety conscious customers.
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be required to develop, integrate, and enforce standards for training and operations and ultimately how to scaleup the standardization across the globe and in highly regulated and safety conscious industries, specifically Oil & Gas, Transportation/rail lines, amongst others.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop operational procedures for remotely piloted aircraft, sub-systems, and adjacent systems
  • Develop syllabus and method of instruction (MOI) plan for new operating partners
  • Develop evaluation standards and process for internal and external crewmembers. Crew members include pilot, observer, and sensor operators.
  • Develop evaluation and audit requirements for safe air vehicle operations
  • Manage milestones and internal/external stakeholders to develop standardization plan.
  • Instruct and lead operating partners through integration and evaluation.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all flight standards, regulation, and flight safety for the Business.


Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
  • FAA Pilot’s License
  • Minimum of 10 years Aviation experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
  • Minimum of 5 years of flight standardization experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience in relevant areas and functions within a product/platform organization
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program/project management
Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a shortage of individuals with particular skills.
  • Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen
  • Must be willing to travel ~ up to 40% of time
  • Must be willing to work in Boston, MA, location flexible.


Desired Characteristics:
  • Certified Flight Instructor
  • Military or Civil sUAS/UAS experience
  • Worked in headquarters level flight standardization office
  • Designated Flight Safety or Standardization pilot
  • Experience with Aviation operations in/around industrial customers’ assets
  • Experience in related industry (Oil&Gas, Transportation/rail, Power lines) a plus
  • Developing flight standards that integrate and are augmented by new technology
  • Proven track record with both working with senior executives & technical decision makers
  • Experience in working with local and remote teams across time zones
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interface and influence at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and facilitation skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a global matrix organization
  • Ability to learn and define business processes and operationalize via supporting technologies/tools
  • Highly self-motivated contributor who works well as an individual and within a team environment
  • Excellent organization skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to hit tight deadlines and work under pressure.
