Role Summary:
The Director of Solar Project Mgmt / Construction will lead the execution of all solar construction projects.They will execute projects safely, of the highest quality, on schedule, within budget, minimize the impact of unexpected changes while maximizing opportunities for margin enhancement.This position reports to the GM for the Solar Business, interface with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Project Development, and Marketing ensuring a predictable outcome during the execution phase of projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition you will :


  • Lead a growing team of Project Managers engaged in the construction of solar projects throughout North America who ensure:
    • Delivery, installation, and commissioning of equipment-only and full scope Solar Projects
    • Serving as the Customer’s primary point of contact with GE during execution
    • Schedule and cost control
    • Project reporting and forecast of cash flow and revenue recognition
    • Execution in accordance with GE project management process and procedures; where necessary, adapting and improving same

  • Manage subcontractors for project construction activities to include:
    • Work scope development, contractor bid evaluation and selection, final price negotiation
    • Schedule and cost control
    • Change order negotiation

  • Developing predictive cost modeling and work scopes required by the sales and commercial team for new projects and opportunities
  • Support as necessary, with customer discussions and subcontractor discussions related to project execution
  • Develop and implement systematic improvements that enable 10x growth over a 3 year period
  • Work with the supply chain team (e.g., logistics, sourcing & manufacturing) to develop delivery plans to meet contractual commitments, minimizing liquidated damages exposure
  • Manage the contract of projects in the execution phase and implement change orders as necessary
  • Support the development of project financial performance projections during the sales / commercial process and track financial performance of projects during execution
  • Support the development of high level and detailed project schedules (as needed) to support on time and under budget project execution
  • Engage cross-functional teams (e.g., field operations, sourcing, logistics, project finance, requisition engineering, manufacturing, project controls, contract management) to ensure successful project execution

    Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or Business Administration from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing Solar project managers or teams of Solar construction leaders
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in general construction management

  • PLEASE NOTE : Work location listed is Schenectady, NY. However, other U.S. locations may be considered

    Desired Characteristics:

  • Proven track record of successfully managing projects in the US commercial / industrial Solar market
  • Deep experience and industry relationships with regional / national solar EPC firms
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to work independently (after proper training) and be a self-starter
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Ability and willingness to work in range of environments to include solar sites across North America and possibly other countries
  • Fluency in the Spanish language
  • Demonstrated skills in project planning software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, etc.)
  • Project management or other experience in power generation industries
  • Experience dealing successfully with customs
  • Experience dealing with federal, state and local agencies for various permits
  • Financial forecasting experience
