Role Summary:
In this role, you will drive Data Governance for the organization that supports the data requirements of GE Power including functional and regional business users as well as Data Scientists who are using analytics to achieve business outcomes including building new customer analytics products to increase revenue, driving internal productivity to reduce cost and managing risk of our contractual services portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities:

As the Sr. Director - Data & Analytics you will:

  • Focus on three main aspects of the Power Data Services organization – Governance, Project Management and manage the Financials of the team
  • Define the Data Governance Policy and Standards for the Enterprise Data Landscape for GE Power.
  • Implement operating mechanisms for ensuring governance standards including metadata management and data lineage - includes the Ingestion layer, Primary and Secondary Consumption layers and visualization/analytics tools like Tableau.
  • Document the end to end business data landscape aligned with Business Processes.
  • Drive consistency in data definitions, sources, consumable models, data usage and quality.
  • Identify, track and collate all critical metadata in GE Power into the Power Data Lake.
  • Actively participate in strategic and tactical initiatives to ensure that a data stewardship mindset is incorporated into all projects
  • Implement off-the-shelf / open source tools for data governance like Metadata Management. Alternatively build data governance solutions on the Predix platform or use Tableau for reporting/visualizations.
  • Provide Project Management structure and tracking for the different projects in the team – including driving Fastworks / Agile approach using Scrum tools like Rally and Aha.
  • Manage the Finances of the Power Data Services organization including tracking SII, OP Budgets and Actuals working with the Finance representatives for the IT organization.




Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a Data Management role including running queries and compiling data for analytic
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in data design, data architecture and data modeling (both transactional and analytic)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Big Data / NoSQL technologies including Greenplum and Hadoop (HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Shark, Spark, etc.)


Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience in data dictionary and metadata management using automated tools
  • Proven experience in data integration / data federation projects
  • Experience in data design, data architecture and data modeling (both transactional and analytic)
  • Knowledge of data transfer and ingestion technologies including Talend and HVR
  • Write complex SQL queries needed to query and analyze data
  • Communicates complex solution concepts in simple terms
  • Quickly learn and adapt the capabilities of new technologies and share with the team
  • Strong Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build visualizations using Tableau to show insights
  • Good knowledge of Predix Platform. Working knowledge and hand on Experience with Restful Webservices, Angular JS and Polymer and other web components like HTML5 and CSS
  • Usage of Agile / Scrum tools like Rally and Aha
